Walk In Pantry Makeover

Hello! When we moved into our new custom home in December of 2017, I knew I wanted to have a pretty walk-in pantry. Well, we got everything except for the pretty. πŸ™‚ It had the standard wire shelves and they worked fine, but were far from impressive. When we built our home, I chose a french door to the pantry and a pretty chandelier because I knew we would eventually add wooden shelves and not only make it more functional for our family but also pretty. Well, that time has come!

Glass Front Fridge

Let’s start with the before (iPhone photo’s…sorry). Again, pretty standard. Not horribly embarrassing, but definitely didn’t deserve a glass french door for a peek inside. Lol And a chandelier in a space with wire shelves? I’m a dork, a fancy one. Ps. Now I think I want to change out the light. I’m thinking of an oversized white milk glass schoolhouse pendant.

The Pantry Before

I contacted a local contractor who is also a family friend and he executed what I described perfectly! I’m very visual, so I generally show 8-10 photos from Pinterest of “a little of this, and a little of that” and try to be very specific and descriptive for the look I want to achieve. My husband will usually sketch what I am describing and our contractor nailed it. πŸ™‚

I mean, it’s relatively simple. I wanted our pantry to have painted white wooden shelves, a glass front fridge, subway tile, a cubbie for baskets and a butcher block countertop. Our pantry is 7.5 feet deep and the glass front fridge is about 18″ in depth, but needs to be out 5″ from the wall for proper ventilation. So our contractor made the depth of the butcher block countertop 23″. The upper shelves are 10″ deep as well as the side shelving.

Now, my organization skills in pretty containers are limited because I need expiration dates. I absolutely love the look of glass containers to hold our food, but they usually don’t hold Pringles and cans of Spaghettio’s. Ok, fine- we like snacks around here. Lol

I feel like our walk in pantry actually looks bigger than before! I added a rug, wooden boxes, and step stool from HomeGoods. The wooden boxes hold our garbage bags, saran wrap, tin-foil…etc. Eventually, I’ll get baskets that all match, but for now I’m just using what we already have.

I admit my styling of food isn’t glamorous, but it’s functional. The pantry is also used to store crock pots and strainers along with seasonal floral decor and glass pitchers. My favorite are the glass front fridge, countertop and subway tile! It’s nice to have a dedicated fridge for just beverages. I told my husband we should get rid of the one in the garage now, but I don’t think he agrees.

I love it, I really do. Walking into this pantry just makes me happy and I generally leave the door wide open now. I do think I will replace the light fixture (I need something brighter anyway) to better suit the style of the room, but for now, I am calling this pantry done!

Love it! What a great idea to put the fridge in there. The solid shelving is so much more attractive and useful than the wrapped wire. Great job…. as usual!

I love this and I am impressed you styled this yourself! I have a similar pantry but is at an angle. Same wire shelves but mine don’t go to the floor. I love the door! I am pinning this one for future inspiration!

Is there an upper outlet so you can actually use the mixer and toaster in the pantry or do you just use the butcher block for staging/storage?

  21. DecorKate says:

    Hi Allie,

We just installed one outlet for the glass fridge, so technically we can use the toaster with it if we really wanted to, but it’s generally for storage. πŸ™‚

Very nice. I know you mentioned the dimensions were 4×7.5. Is that the interior or exterior dimension?

    Thanks
