Our New Living Room Furniture

Ahhh, so excited about our new living room furniture! Nothing was wrong with our previous furniture, but I really wanted something different. We bought our furniture 5 years ago right after we got married and purchased our first home. It worked, it was neutral (a must for me) and I loved the nailhead trim. But…over the last year or so, I was no longer crazy about the nailhead trim. We wanted something more durable, tailored, sophisticated- yet super comfortable. I really love the single bench cushion sofas and I like the relaxed look of linen.

We debated between a slipcovered sofa (like the York sofa from Pottery Barn, which I think is beautiful) but my husband prefers upholstered. So I kept searching online, going to furniture stores, and ordering free fabric swatches from multiple places. I discovered Maiden Home from one of my favorite blogs, The Lilly Pad Cottage. A post was written about her new furniture so I went down the rabbit hole of investigating this company. Searching hashtags, reading every review and ordering samples of fabrics. 8-way hand tied springs? Custom made? I was intrigued!

Fireplace Sconces

Once the fabric samples arrived, I tried to destroy them. Lol I poured soy sauce, juice, mustard, and random condiments on all the samples to see what would happen. They beaded right up! I would blot it and the stain would disappear. Their fabrics are protected by Crypton stain repellant so that only encouraged me to move forward.

Green Velvet Throw Pillows

I was nervous to order furniture sight unseen. Was it comfortable? Durable? Kid-friendly? But I took a leap of faith and after reading amazing reviews, went for it! We decided to go with two sofas (again) facing each other because we really like this layout. It’s not only conversational and great for entertaining, but we can each lay down and watch TV and it’s deep enough our little one can lay with either of us. πŸ™‚ We bought the Sullivan sofas; Performance Linen in the color Creme. However, it’s more of a light oatmeal color, not a creamy white, which was exactly what I wanted.

I am happy to report that we absolutely love our furniture! It’s super comfortable and much deeper than our previous sofas. Maiden Home offers white glove delivery and free shipping with each purchase. (No, this is not a sponsored post). In fact, a close contender was the furniture company, Six Penny. I went back and forth but Maiden Home won out because of the tailored look of the Sullivan sofa and the beautifully curved arms.

A few other tweaks

Notice anything else different? We changed out our doorknobs on the french doors. When we built our home, I really wanted black but realize they sort of disappeared into the doors, so I ordered some beautiful french antique brass ones from Emtek (that match our front door). A subtle difference to others, but I notice them! haha We also replaced our white shelves from our built-ins with ones stained to match our floors. It’s the little details that make me happy! I still kept the white ones in case I want to switch them back out later.

I also bought a new rug for our entry and added a small table, vase, and faux fall stems.

Well, that’s it! I’m considering a couple of chairs for our upstairs living room but for now, we are going to kick back, relax and enjoy. Honestly, I just want to snuggle on my sofa by the fire, catch up on the Real Housewives and eat Halloween candy. πŸ™‚

I was wondering what color paint you used in your main living area?

Hi there! I have been looking at the Sullivan couch for the same reasons as you but am very worried about deflated back cushions and a flat bench seat. Please oh please can you share how they look now? Did that fabric wrinkle a lot? I would be forever grateful!

    Hi Nadia!

Looks the exact same it did the day we received them. If you follow me on Instagram, @DecorKateKY you can see recent photos of our sofas. No deflation, no stains and I have a 4-year-old. I would 100% purchase them again. πŸ™‚
